As we did in ELM 7.0.1 SR1, ELM 7.0.2 interim fix 18, and 7.0.3 interim fix 7, we are delivering a mid-year maintenance release that includes new features, replacement of internal components, and an updated installer.
Highlights
- Updated Java runtime to Java 17 (IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition V17)
- Include selected high-value, low-risk features, notably DOORS Next cross-server link constraints
- Include serviceability improvements
- Include fixes to product issues identified by customers (normal iFix content)
- Updated various internal components
Here’s a handy summary table:

Why a Service Release?
The main driver for a Service Release (SR) is to remove old components from a deployed system. The ELM patch service is additive: a simple way to deploy that can update components; it has no way to remove old component versions. A service release is installed using an updated installer and/or updated IBM Installation Manager repositories. It provides a way to remove old component versions.
- Upgrades and new installs use an updated installer or installation repositories. For more detail, refer to Interactive install guide
- Where ELM 7.1 is already installed, a side-by-side installation should be done with the updated installer. For more detail, refer to Upgrading to 7.1.0 SR1 interim fix 4 by using side-by-side installation
ELM 7.1 SR1 interim fix 4 is the basis for future 7.1.0 maintenance (interim fix 5+, debug patches, etc.). This is the same pattern as earlier releases [Technote 6588059] (but follow the 7.1.0 documentation topic instead for the latest instructions).
