Did you help to shape our 6.0 product releases?

I want to take this time to thank all of you who are participating in our 6.0 Beta programs for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM), Rational DOORS Next Generation (RDNG), Rational Quality Manager (RQM) and Rational Team Concert (RTC).  We appreciate and value your participation over the past five months.  As a result of the beta program, we opened about 100 work items.  Thus far all of the defects and some of the enhancements have been addressed and we continue to review the remaining enhancements for possible addition in upcoming releases.

What’s a beta program?

Our beta programs provide an opportunity to try out the code while it’s in development, learn what’s new, and provide feedback.  It helps our development teams and product managers improve our products and prioritize our work.  One of the goals of the program is to provide our users with the foundation to use the product while our users ensure it works as they need it to.  Your participation in the program enables us to better prioritize our work items for current and future releases, helping to ensure that you are getting the features and functions you need to run your business.

Summary of the CLM 6.0 beta program

We kicked off the 6.0 release in November 2014 meeting biweekly.  We covered various topics pertaining to the 6.0 release such as Configuration Management Overview, Delivering Changes across Streams in RDNG and RQM, and Configuration Aware Reporting.  A Task Guide was provided to help clients try out the beta.  After completing the Task Guide, users provided their feedback.  We captured the feedback and opened work items (defects and enhancements).  These work items were then summarized and presented to the users, so that they could help us prioritize the work items.  The main area that clients wanted us to focus on for 6.0 was User Interface consistency.  In response to that feedback, we put in place a Cross Cutting Feature Team, led by one of our IBM Designers, to drive User Interface improvements.
