There is never a dull day in the world of DevOps!  There is always something new to learn and apply; an increasing buzz, spawning the need for new capabilities.

If you are not familiar with the concept of DevOps, here is one point-of-view. It is about applying Lean and Agile principles to simplify and accelerate software delivery, while removing waste and improving quality.  For this to happen, we have to take a holistic view of the delivery process. We see DevOps as an enterprise capability for continuous delivery. It encompasses the software delivery lifecycle – including business planning to deliver the right applications and systems,  collaborative development, continuous testing and integration, continuous release and deployment, and continuous monitoring and optimization. You can adopt DevOps from any of these entry points, depending on where your delivery process is hurting most.

So what’s new in the world of DevOps here at IBM?  We are pleased to welcome UrbanCode, the newest addition to the IBM family.  UrbanCode (www.urbancode.com) is a well-known player in the DevOps community and a leading provider of Application Release Automation (ARA) technology with expertise in DevOps. Customers have been using UrbanCode’s ARA solution to gain greater business agility by rapidly and more frequently delivering applications to market with reduced cost, reduced risk and increased quality. This acquisition complements the IBM DevOps capabilities while helping IBM progress our DevOps and Continuous Delivery roadmap.

We are in the process of integrating UrbanCode’s capabilities as part of our overall roadmap.  We will be talking more about this acquisition and DevOps capabilities at Innovate 2013, The IBM Technical Summit, June 2-6, Orlando. Join us for the special DevOps track with 20+ sessions covering DevOps practices and solutions, hands-on workshops and featured solutions from IBM and business partners.

I look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
