I’m pleased to announce that the first release of Design Management has arrived!
Design Management 3.0 makes collaboration capabilities for users of Rational Software Architect (RSA) and Rational Rhapsody a reality. Our initial release allows you and your teams to search, browse, comment, discuss, and review your architecture and designs from both the existing rich clients and a new Design Management web client. Design Management provides OSLC-based integration between architecture and other ALM artifacts, specifically CLM 2011, and will enable complete impact analysis across the lifecycle.
You can learn more about the release on the project pages for Design Management. You may also download Design Management 3.0.
If you encounter any issues or have any questions, please remember that you can post in our forums or submit work items. We look forward to your feedback.

What about licensing? it will come included with RSA or not?
Design Management 3.0 is not included with RSA or an RSA license. You need to install the IBM Rational Software Architect Design Manager Client Extension into RSA. You can then access the Design Management Server via role based user licenses for Design Managers and Design Reviewers.
Are the Design Managers and Design Reviewers licenses separate licenses that customers have to purchase, or is it an extension to RSA that is available through the standard RSA license?
Design Manager and Design Reviewer licenses are separate licenses that need to be purchased for users to access the Design Management server (much the same as the other products like Rational Ream Concert). There is actually no charge for the Client Extension software for RSA.
why is it version 3.0 if it is the first release? Is that to match the other products in the suite?
Could you please describe exactly what you mean by: Design Management provides OSLC-based integration between architecture and other ALM artifacts?
Where is a feature matrix comparing Design Management 3.0 and RSA?
OSLC = Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration, it’s mentioned in a press release.
Does Design Manager (or any other capability) provide for managing Jazz requirements to model-element traceability?
Hi miltcapsimalis, you are correct, DM 3.0 aligns with JTS 3.0 and CLM 3.0.1.
Hi Adil, To answer your question: Could you please describe exactly what you mean by: Design Management provides OSLC-based integration between architecture and other ALM artifacts?
The term “architecture” may be causing confusion here and should likely be qualified. What we mean by architecture is things like software and systems models & designs. This means you can link those design resources to CLM artifacts (requirements, work items, test plans) using OSLC data linking. These links can then be used by things like the DM relationship diagram, RTC traceability views (showing traceability to design resources), documents created using Rational Publishing Engine, etc..
Hi Bruno, We don’t have a feature matrix comparing Design Management 3.0 and RSA because they are complimentary not overlapping. RSA provides the editing capabilities along with other things like transformations. Design Management provides the team collaboration and integration (OSLC linking) capabilities. I’d recommend starting here for a list of DM 3.0 capabilities: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/rational/products/swarchitect/designmanager/features/
Hi Richard, you are correct, one of the key features of design management is the traceability of model artifacts to CLM artifacts (requirements, work items, test plans) using OSLC data linking.
Which version of RSA is designer supported with ? I am assuming Designer and RTC are tightly integrated .
Hi Rajnikanth, the IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA) Design Manager Client Extension can be installed into any version of RSA 8.0. Design Manager 3.0 and Rational Team Concert 3.0.1 are both based on the same Jazz Foundation 3.0.1.
