Rational Team Concert 2.0.0.1 released!

2001-defectsOne thing that is great about having an open community at Jazz.net is that we get feedback from users very promptly. We didn’t want to wait too long before we provided you with an update to 2.0 which contains many your feature requests and important bug fixes. I’m glad to report that the team pulled the update together in a very short timeframe, and as you can see from our dashboard, there was substantial work that happened.
The upgrade to 2.0.0.1 from 2.0 is very easy, as the server is backwards compatible with 2.0 clients and  a repository migration is not required. [TODO: pointer to the readme on upgrade instructions].
[TODO: How about moving from 1.X to 2.0.0.1?]
[TODO: Pointer to the JFS 1.0 SDK?]
– License Changes
a) Express-C is now completely FREE. You can use express-C with 10 users. In addition, we now allow using any of the supported databases with Express-C in cases that you want to get more performance. Although Derby is good for tirekicking, we’ve found that the other supported databases are a lot faster as your # users and artifacts increases. Here is the link to the DB2 free community edition, the SQL Server free edition, and Oracle.
b) We’ve found that many users are adopting Team Concert in one of three ways, either as a work item tracking and planning tool, as a source control and continuous build tool, or lastly jumping in with both feet and using all of Team Concert. We’ve opened up the contributor license to allow everything except for Source Control and Build features. This means that you can adopt Team Concert as a work item and planning tool and pay for only that function. The contributor license will allow everything your server edition supports in those areas, meaning that a contributor license can configure projects, customize work items, and create plans now.
– Features
a) Easier server administration

One thing that is great with an open community at Jazz.net is that we get feedback from you directly. As a result, we didn’t want to wait too long before we provided you with an update to 2.0 which contains incremental feature improvements and important bug fixes based on this feedback.

I’m glad to report that the team pulled together 2.0.0.1 in a very short timeframe (eg, over the summer interleaved with vacations), and as you can see from our 2.0.0.1 tracking dashboard, there was substantial work that happened with 766 defects fixed and 98 new enhancements.

License Changes

  • Express-C is now completely FREE and includes 10 free developer licenses. In addition, we now allow using any of the supported databases with Express-C. Although Derby is good for tirekicking, we’ve found that the other supported databases are a lot faster. This provides a great on-ramp for small teams wanted to get started quickly without any up-front costs. Here are some helpful links to the free editions of DB2 free community edition, SQL Server free edition, and Oracle 10g Express.
  • We’ve found that many users are adopting Team Concert in one of three ways, either as a work item tracking and planning tool, as a source control and continuous build tool, or lastly jumping in with both feet and using all of Team Concert. We’ve expanded the “Contributor” license to allow everything except for Source Control and Build operations. This means that you can adopt Team Concert as a work item and planning tool and pay for only that function. The contributor license will allow everything your server edition supports in those areas, meaning that a contributor license can now in 2.0.0.1 configure projects, customize work items, and create plans.
