How to upgrade CLM from version 4.0.6 to 6.0

Narayanan Potti (27037679) | asked Jul 23 '15, 7:43 p.m.

I need to plan upgrade of CLM version 4.0.6 to 6.0. Please give all the steps for the upgrade or please let me know where to find I can it.

Environment details:
1. Installed on Windows server 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit.
2. Database: Oracle 11.2
3. Application server: Tomcat.
4. User registry: JTS internal user registry.

According to CLM 6.0 infocenter the upgrade need to be done in 2 steps - version 4.0.6 to 5.0 and then from version 5.0 to 6.0. Steps in CLM 6.0 Infocenter are incorrect and confusing. Kindly help.

Thanks a lot
NP

Hi Narayanan,

I would recommend this aricle, it contains many links to the documentation and a lot of god advice about planning your upgrade.

Upgrade planning

You also need to check that your database version and application version are supported in 6.0. Following the advice in the above document should ensure a successful and painless upgrade.

Hi Narayanan, you are correct, you need to upgrade in 2 phases.( CLM 4.0.5 to CLM 5.0, then to 6.0 )
It is recommended to use the CLM 5.0.2 instead of the older 5.0.

Have you checked the steps in the interactive upgrade guide each CLM 5.0.2 and CLM 6.0?

Please let me know which steps you are confused so I can help.

Hi Taki

In CLM 6.0 Infocenter under Upgrade in 3) Select the product version you are upgrading from:
CLM 5.0
CLM 5.0.1
* CLM 5.0.2

I want to upgrade from version 4.0.6.

And in 8) Are you using the new 6.0 Jazz Authentication Server? - Is this a new functionality in version 6.0. I need to know more about it to decide whether to use it.

 Thank
 NP

 Hi NP,

If you want to upgrade from 4.0.6, you need upgrade to 5.0.x first. This is why you cannot select it in the CLM 6.0 interactive guide.

Access to the CLM 5.0.2 interactive guide to select 4.0.6.

Hi Taki @tnakajo,
What about upgrading from a server using CLM 5.0.1 directly to CLM 6.0?
Would that upgrade successfully work? OR do I still need to firstly upgrade my server from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 and then upgrade to 6.0?
Are the any other risks or issues I should consider prior to perform the upgrade?
Thanks in advance!
Vicky

Hi Ashhok, I think you'd better to raise a new forum question so that more chance to get answers for your specific questions.

For Upgrade from 5.0.2 to 6.0, have you checked Interactive upgrade guide for CLM 6.0?
Do you have any specific questions in the steps?

Ashok Sonawane commented Aug 27 '15, 5:05 a.m.

what do you suggest....migration or up-gradation...

which one is better or secure?
