RTC 3.0 planned start and end date

Hi all,

I am testing some new features in RTC3.0 but I cannot change the planned start date and end date.

Can you help me with the instructions about how to change this dates?

Thanks for any help

Hi Sandra.

Plan dates are populated from Snapshots of type "Plan" (similarly, Proposed Dates are populated from Snapshots of type "Proposed").

To populate these dates, please create a Planned Snapshot (in the Snapshots tab). A Planned Snapshot will take a snapshot of the current plan. At that point (once a Plan Snapshot exists) the Start and End Dates in the snapshot will populate the Plan Start and Plan End dates in the plan itself. There can only be one Plan Snapshot

We understand this is not obvious and we are working on ways to make this more clear.

Thanks,

Hi Sandra, could you please say more about the problem you're experiencing?

Is the problem...
- You're not sure where to change this information?
- You know how it's supposed to work but it's failing?
- Something else?

Thanks,

Sandra,

One more clarification point. The previous post (about creating a Snapshot of type "Plan" to populate the Planned Start and End dates) refers to the Plan editor (you will see a "Snapshot" tab in the plan editor where you can crate a snapshot of type "plan").

You may have seen those Planned Start and End dates as attributes in a work item. The above still applies. The Planned Start and End dates seen in a work item are the same dates seen in the "Work Breakdown and Schedule" view of in the plan editor. Once you create a snapshot of type "plan" you will see the Planned Start and End dates populated in the work item view.

Hello as I understand correctly, is the scheduling only working correctly in the Formal Planning Template?

I have a project migrated from 2.0 based on the OpenUP template. There the Gantt Chart ("Roadmap") works but I cannot change the work item start dates (as on snapshot tab available).

The main problem is that the Gantt Chart shows a really incorrect order of the workitems in the timeline and there is no way to influence it.
For example a developer has two tasks A and B. B depends on A, but in the Roadmap B is scheduled earlier then A. As B depends on A it is impossible to perform task B before task A.

If there is a way to influence the order, please let me know.

I believe the key here is that most software dependencies are not
start/end, but rather end/end ... i.e. when a software task A depends on
another software task B, then there is almost always some work you can
perform on software task A before software task B is started ... but you
cannot *complete* task A until task B is completed.

I've submitted work item 150827, requesting that end/end dependencies be
supported, and that in particular, the existing depends-on/blocks
relation be given end/end semantics (since many people are confused when
the depends-on/blocks relation does not result in a schedule dependency).

Cheers,
Geoff

That I could not achieve. I see planned dates on a Plan but at the work item editor view it does not sync. I've already checked that the WI is planned for the same interation of the plan I took the snapshot. Its a bug of 3.0?
best regards
Condack
