How to use Exposure Provider and Probability Cost Provider

I've tried to use the above mentioned provider types for calculated values. First I checked wether the needed xml is available in the process source and it is. Now I can create an attribute with these as calculated value. But my main question is, what's the benefit of it? Do you have any use case fore these two types? (All explanations I found yet are not really sufficient.) Maybe in addtion you can provide me an example.
