Project var of versioned Java Project not keeping its value

A Java project has a project variable set. It has been versioned in RTC. Subsequent reloads of the repo workspace with that project show the variable retained for the Java project but not the value. This is on SUSE Linux running RTC/CLM 3.0.1. Is this a known defect?

As far as I know those project variables are stored in the Eclipse metadata and will not be persisted in our SCM.
