General 3.x questions (beta?)

Sterling Ferguson-II (1.6k10288273) | asked Aug 19 '10, 10:23 a.m.
Hello,

If we have the 3.x CLM solution setup on 3 separate machines (RTC/RQM/Requirements)

1. If there is an ifix release, is the plan to have the ifix for just one app RTC, or for the whole workbench?

2. We are trying to get Insight up and running. Will having this, and "common reporting" be redundant? Should we just use one or the other?

3. The reports available with common reporting, are these going to be included in the post 3.x release of the next version of Insight?

thanks for your time.

I will get someone else to answer the reporting questions but I can answer your first question. Just to use the right terminology, the applications - CCM, QM, RM don't map 1:1 to products. See my recent blog post for background. In fact without specific product license keys installed into the workbench for CLM server, it has no concept of products whatsoever. You will see this in RC0 (Beta 2) when we finally remove all traces of the product names from the applications.

Many of the product licenses like Quality Professional actually use all three applications. There may also be other products in the future that use these same three (or perhaps only or or two) applications. There may also be other applications that extend the server that could be used by later versions of say, RQM or RTC product keys or other product keys. All this to say that products, defined by keys are really somewhat orthogonal to the applications that enable them.

The short answer to your question is that a fix may update any or all of the applications. However the idea of an RTC or RQM-only update is gone. As you know today, when you install any of the early milestone downloads of DOORS RP, RQM or RTC you're actually installing the same three applications. When we do updates in the future, it will be the same kind of story - there will really only be one update even though it might be branded multiple ways. You certainly will NOT have to install an update per product.

Hope that helps.

Adrian
