Looking at setting up RRC 2 beta as a windows service, ahs anyone done this successfully?

I've followed the above technote to the letter, and am unable to connect to my repository.

CRRRC2259E The connection to the repository does not work....

In the rdm.log, I'm seeing the following errors

2009-10-06 16:18:21,812 [] ERROR com.ibm.team.jfs.app.ConfigUtil - CRJZS0159E Failed to find fronting.properties. Search path: C:\RRCSB2\server\tomcat\work\Catalina\localhost\rdm\proxytemp\hc_1730438948;C:\RRCSB2\server\tomcat\work\Catalina\localhost\rdm\proxytemp\hc_1730438948;C:\RRCBS2\server\conf\rdm;C:\RRCSB2\server\conf

However, the fronting.properties file does exist in C:\RRCBS2\server\conf\rdm?

Although this may be a red herring. Any help would be appreciated

thanks

So just to clarify, were the typos on your part or do we have some mistakes in the technote that we need to get fixed?

Hi,

I have just followed the instructions in the most recent "Running Rational Requirements Server in Tomcat as a Windows Service" document from the work item linked above. However when I attempt to start the service, it fails - looking into the jakarta log I get this:

[2009-11-25 12:45:37] [410 javajni.c] [error] CreateJavaVM Failed
[2009-11-25 12:45:37] [953 prunsrv.c] [error] Failed initializing java C:\Program Files\IBM\RRCS20\server\tomcat\bin\bootstrap.jar
[2009-11-25 12:45:37] [1202 prunsrv.c] [error] ServiceStart returned 2

Any suggestions?

As a side comment; I think this service documentation (assuming it is correct!) ought to be part of the RRC online installation help; rather than hidden away in a workitem.

Thanks.

Just noticed that the thread title refers to Beta 2 - I am using the 2.0 release version; if that make a difference.

I see that there is now a RRC 2.0 tech note on this topic.

I see that there is now a RRC 2.0 tech note on this topic.

Thanks - those are the same notes I was following; but it's good that they are formally documented.

We are now using a release version of RRC2, but I still cannot make Tomcat run as a service. Following those instructions results in the following Jakarta errors whenever I try to start the service:

[2010-01-14 12:14:39] [947 prunsrv.c] [error] Failed creating java

[2010-01-14 12:14:39] [1202 prunsrv.c] [error] ServiceStart returned 1

Googling those errors returns this thread - http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5121172 - however it's not quite the same and there is a copy of msvcr71.dll in the system32 directory.

Has anyone managed to get RRCS working as a service?

OK - we have finally got this working. There were two issues - one of my making; one with the instructions:

1) Make sure the Java path in the Tomcat service settings is pointing to the RRCS copy of jvm.dll.

2) The instructions say to set the "Maximum memory pool" size to be 1536. This does not work on our server (which has 3GB of memory). Setting this to be smaller (1000 in our case) allowed the service to start correctly.

Hope this helps someone.
