How to incorporate changes as a team in Global Configuration Manager?
We are looking for a way to incorporate changes into our (GCM) components and to work as a team on this changes.
The Background:
• Changes in components are spread over a set of tools, e.g. Requirements Manager, Design Manager, Quality Manager …, due to the links between the artefacts, we need a global configuration.
• In our test, a private stream is limited to the creator of the stream and not visible to other team members
• A “manual” change stream is visible to the team but we haven’t found a function to archive the stream after delivering the change to our component stream
Is there a function for incorporating changes as a team in GCM? (e.g. something like a change set?)
Accepted answer
You can create a global baseline to capture changes made in the context of a global stream. Other teams, or other parts of your team, can use those global baselines as contributions to other global streams, so reusing your changes in other contexts and (potentially) multiple products.
There is no concept of a global change set today. We are looking at ways to introduce more automation and more workflow or process into global configuration management in future releases.
We are in the process of adding capabilities for archiving streams and baselines. From the "New and Noteworthy" document for 6.0.2 Milestone 2 on jazz.net:
ArchiveConfiguration leads can archive global configurations and global components. Use the new Archived check box on the Attributes tab of the Configurations or Components pages to archive. When a component is archived, all configurations of that component are also archived. After a configuration or component is archived, it does not appear in search or query results, cannot be edited, and is displayed only when referenced by an active configuration.
