What does deprecated mean for the MultiList presentation?

This is related to the question Deprecated MultiList but is more of a process than technical question.

What does deprecated mean to us down the road?
-- No more bug fixes, there are no plans to pull the code, or
-- There will come a point where you must convert your existing work items to the new style before upgrading

Mostly the latter ... but it is not a guarantee that such a point will come, but a head's up that such a point may come.
