RTC Client 4.0.0.1 compatibility with server 4.0

Why Tea (25246) | asked Oct 08 '12, 5:52 a.m.
I found that query for work items doesn't work after I upgraded my RTC client to 4.0.0.1. The server is at 4.0.
1) All existing queries visible with RTC client 3.x are no longer visible
2) New queries couldn't be created and saved

Has anyone encountered the same issue?

Is there a way around it?

Are your queries shared? Do you have any errors in your error log ("Menu Bar >> Window >> Show View >> Other >> Error Log"). This should be working for you.

This is the first line of the error log:

com.ibm.team.repository.common.TeamRepositoryException: CRJAZ1241I There is a version mismatch for the "com.ibm.team.workitem.query" model.  The server version is "6" while the client version is "7". Both client and server version must match. Check the overall version of the client using Help->About and ensure it is compatible with server version "4.0" and build id "RJF-I20120531-1400".

This is a client 4.0.0.1 vs server 4.0. HWy did it complain about server version 6 vs client 7?

The following is from Help/About of my client with Build id different to the server's "RJF-I20120531-1400". Does it matter?

Version: 4.0.0.1
Build id: RTC-I20120911-1740

Hummh. If your CLM server is at 4.0, I'd consider installing RTC Client 4.0 (only) and not an RTC Client with a higher level (4.0.0.1) like you did.

This should solve your compatibility problems.

True. Works with 4.0 and 3.x.

Strange though why a slightly newer client doesn't work with the server, and I don't think it's stated anywhere. Sounds like there is a poor control in the compatibility area.

N-1 client to server compatibility is the rule since 4.0 (so that things work the opposite way you initially tried).

You could find a compatibility matrix in the CLM 2012 Deployment Guide
for previous versions :
https://jazz.net/library/article/832/#mozTocId827297

While there is certainly some room for providing a more complete matrix
(including Ifixes, minor versions, etc.) this should give you an accurate idea
of how things work.

Stephane
