I'm using Calculated Value (RTC 4.0 RC0) for a timestamp attribute and have the same problem as mentioned in the link above when the workitem is created. On subsequent actions (i.e. change state, change attribute value, etc.) it works fine. Seems like it is not possible to assign a timestamp to that attribute at the begining, only after the first 'save'. Maybe the workitem you were talking about which fixed this issue (by the way, could you supply a link to that workitem?) had not been delivered to version 4.0?
