Permission Denied for an admin
Hi, I am getting a failure to add my self as an administrator to a team area. I am the administrator of the project and the server.
The error message (see the error below:) tells me to look at the server log, but I am not sure where is the log or see anything in the logs I can find. Error msg: Saving team area failed. Please see your server log for more detail. : 'Save Team Area' failed. Permission denied. |

The thing is that my user is also a team-member and a project lead and I can see this in the members list int the Team Area view. However I cannot add my self to the team administrators. I am still "confused" if this is a regular bug , a "confusion bug" or just a "confused user"

Don't worry, you're not the only one who finds this behavior confusing
(see Jared's mention of bug 57648)! You probably can't add yourself to the team administrators because that requires saving the Team Area and none of the roles assigned to you have the "Save Team Area" permission. You can check by opening your project area, going to the "Process Configuration" tab, opening the "Team Configuration" node and clicking on the "Permissions" element. In the permissions window to the right, select each of the roles assigned to your User and see if the "Save Team Area" permission (under the "Process" node) is checked for any of the roles. I'm guessing it's not and you'll have to enable it for one of the roles assigned to you. You can check your assigned roles in the "Members" section of the "Overview" tab in the project area editor. There may also be team-specific roles assigned in the same location in the team area editor. Many people expect all process permissions to be granted by default when they are project admins. It is this confusion that is the basis for bug 57648. abaror wrote: The thing is that my user is also a team-member and a project lead and -- Jason Bird Jazz Team |
What we are missing in the web ui is an equivalent of the eclipse
client's Team Advisor view. In case like yours the Team Advisor view's 'Why did this happen?' action provides you details about which concrete permission all roles assigned to you are missing.
