Can a I modify the template on which a Project Area is based?

I have a project area with many thousands of test cases etc. Each iteration adds another 3000+ test cases. The project area uses the Quality Management Default v3 Process template.

We have a need to have the Requirements section appear in the list of sections for future test plans and test cases.

Is it possible to modify the template to make this happen?

Thanks.

@dhanslip I guess you want to modify existng testcases so now they also show section for Requirements? I think you will need to add section manually but you can change template for new testcases will be created afterwards

This question refers to quality management and project templates - I can provide some information about project templates in general, hopefully someone from the Quality Management team will address the QM side.

If you modify a project template any new project areas created from that template will have the modifications but existing projects will be unaffected. If you want to create a variant of a predefined template it may be better to create a copy of the original template by exporting and then re-importing it rather than modifying the original. If you want to be able to make modifications to your project configuration in a single place and have those changes reflected in multiple project areas you may find that process sharing is a better alternative, I don't have sufficient knowledge of QM to be able to answer whether the change you want to make can be accomplished by editing the configuration or if process sharing could accomplish this effect.

Thanks Chris.

You got the important point: "If you modify a project template any new project areas created from that template will have the modifications but existing projects will be unaffected."

That you can't modify an existing project area is a concern - you don't find out you need changes until you use it - in this case, there are many thousands of artefacts in the project and creating a new one isn't an option.

Fortunately, I've now found a solution that won't require the RequisitePro integration.
