BIRT with RQM 2.0
![](http://jazz.net/_images/myphoto/38774cffbdf8795725d7bdf4260baffa.jpg)
I'm trying to develop reports with RQM 2.0 using BIRT. I've followed the reporting instructions provided with RTC 2.0 to get the BIRT designer running in the RTC client and I am able to create some very basic reports and register them with the RQM server.
However, I find it requires a lot of exploration to find specific snapshots and tables for the reports I want to create. Is there any documentation about the RQM-specific snapshots and tables available in the data warehouse?
Thanks

Hi James,
The Data Warehouses and tables are not documented.
RQM does not support creating new BIRT reports.
The supported and recommended solution for creating custom reports (in version 2.0 and beyond) is via Cognos reports.
One question though: If I just want to create a custom report with minor customization, do I have to install the whole RQMCR (Cognos)?
It's a pretty heavy infrastructure for a simple task...

I agree with pfreire -- the Custom Reports is a huge installation and many times we just need to make slight modifications to the existing BIRT-based reports that ship with RQM.
We use both RTC and RQM. It's really frustrating that we have to use a different reporting tool with each product.

From RTC Eclipse Client Help -
Installing BIRT tools
Install BIRT reporting tools into your Rational Team Concert client.
Before you begin
To use the BIRT reporting tools with Rational Team Concert, you must install a compatible version of the BIRT tools and each of its dependencies: Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) plug-in and Database Development (DTP) plug-in. Details about BIRT prerequisites and version compatibility are available on the Eclipse web site at http://www.eclipse.org/birt/.
About this task
If you cannot install the plug-ins using the Update Manager, as outlined in the steps below, you must download them from the Eclipse website and install them manually into your product installation directory.
Table 1. Version compatibility across Rational Team Concert and BIRT tools and dependencies
Rational Team Concert BIRT DTP EMF
2.0 2.3.2.2 1.6.2 2.4.2
1.0 2.2.2 1.5.2 2.3.3
In your Rational Team Concert client, click Help > Software Updates.
On the Available Software page, expand the Ganymede node.
Select Charting and Reporting and Database Development, and click Install. The Update Manager determines if there are any dependencies and displays the selected plug-ins with all dependencies in the Install window.
Confirm that all plug-ins are selected in the Install window and click Next.
Read the license agreement(s). If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms of the license agreements and click Finish.

I believe Rational Insight is the newer name for Rational Common Reporting? And we have it installed and running properly with RQM.
For RQM, it is capable of generating list-based reports.
e.g. execution work item for members in some iteration/milestone/test schedule.
As well as charts, although I haven't explored too much of it.
e.g. test execution summary for each iteration/milestone/test schedule
Currently we are looking into the method to import Cognos reports into RQM, and run from RQM directly. However, an error was shown as below:
HTTP Status 404 - /service/com.ibm.rqm.reports.service.cognos.internal.ICognosReportService

message /service/com.ibm.rqm.reports.service.cognos.internal.ICognosReportService
description The requested resource (/service/com.ibm.rqm.reports.service.cognos.internal.ICognosReportService) is not available.
Anyone can help?
Thanks.
