Importing from Excel to RQM in Linux

Johanna Vazquez (611) | asked Dec 19 '11, 10:51 a.m.
Hi,

I am currently trying to import requirements from Excel into RQM. From what I understand I cannot use the RQM ExcelWord Importer because that is a windows only solution. My RQM installation is on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4. Is there a way to import file types other than XML into RQM? Or is there a recommended solution for importing requirements from Excel into a Linux installation of RQM?

Thanks,
Johanna

Hi @jvazqu02,

The Excel and Word import utilities are client-side tools (you install them on client machines). There is no server-side component; the utilities utilize the RQM Reportable REST API which is already built into the server. What does this mean? The OS of the RQM server is irrelevant -- you can use the Excel and Word import utilities against any RQM server, regardless of what OS it is running on.

Of note, you do need a Windows machine with a copy of Microsoft Office in order to install and run the utility on.

More details on installation and usage are here: RQMExcelWordImporter.

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your quick response :)

My particular problem is that there is no windows access to or from my RQM install. I can transfer Excel files to the server where RQM is installed but the windows box where I am using Excel cannot speak to my RQM installation. Would the utility transfer my Excel document into another filetype that I can transfer over for RQM to read? Or is the utility trying to directly speak to my RQM installation?

Thanks,
Johanna
