RRC screen capture
Using the Eclipse client for RRC 2.0.0.3 allowed me to capture the rich text of an artifact appearing in a scrolling area using Snagit. This was done since the output of the rich text to Word or PDF was unacceptable.
Now with RRC 3.0.1 I am faced with the same situation (unacceptable output to Word and PDF) except I am no longer able to capture the rich text content using Snagit. I have tried configuring Snagit to capture a scrolling window and a scrolling region and neither option will work. It appears the controls used in RRC 3.0.1 will not auto scroll. I would also to use this technique to capture the contents of an RRC view. Same problem - no autoscroll. Can anyone recommend a way to successful capture all rich text in an artifact or the contents of an RRC view? Regards, Sharon Sorenson Ascendant Technology |

I am experimenting with the tree view capability of RRC 3.0.1 using the JKE requirements project sample. When I expand the number of levels of the "Release 1 Features" saved view I am receiving error message CRRRW73391 "The number of artifacts that are linked to the base artifacts is too large to fully display. Filter the linktypes that are used for expanding the rows, or reduce the number of requested levels."
Please provide information regarding the actual limit being exceeded so I can I have some idea if the views we need for my current client can be achieved. Regards, Sharon Sorenson Ascendant Technology |
When the total number of links in the tree view exceeds 150 links, in the page you are viewing, you get that warning. But when that happens, you will see an option, as a hyperlink (and for each link type that has missing links) that says "Show more artifacts with a '<link>' relationship."
For example: Show more artifacts with a 'Satisfied By' relationship, under Satisfied By tree. If you click this, server will fetch all the missing Satisfied By link and display them. |
Thank you for the additional information. I had not noticed the "Show more artifacts..." messaging and had wondered how I wouild know which links were not shown.
Knowing that there is a limit of 150 will help me train the user community regarding proper application of the tree view capability. Regards, Sharon Sorenson |
I have just noticed your first question about screen cap. I do not understand what you mean by auto scroll and why SnagIt does not work. Can you please clarify?

With Snagit you can set options before initiating a screen capture to automatically scroll through an active window or region and capture all content appearing in the scrollable area. So for example, if I am viewing a rich text artifact that cannot be fully viewed in the window, Snagit can be used to automatically scroll the window capturing all content the user would see if they scrolled from the top to the bottom (and left to right) in a single screenshot.
I used to use this screenshot capability, for example, to capture all content in a use case. I could then write out the screen capture content to a PDF and that artifact would contain all of the use case rich text. If this is still not clear it may be best if I were to show you the behavior directly. Regards, Sharon |
Unfortunately I can't answer your question about Snagit, but I'm interested in your statement that the output to PDF/Word is unacceptable. Have you captured that in a work item? Because that would obviously be the best solution.

I have logged several PMRs reporting the issues I am seeing. The PMRs have to do with the formatting of tables, spacing, and the disappearance of the name for embedded artifacts. Support has not determined whether to log defects or not.
I am also about to log another one since when I try to output a diagram from the Simple Flow Diagram artifact, the diagram does not appear in the generated PDF or Word doc. It may be that the latest version of RRC (3.0.1.1) will correct some of these issues. We will determine that shortly. What I seek is an exact representation of the rich text which I previously was able to capture using Snagit and which is not provided by RRC. Regards, Sharon |
I think the reason SnagIt is not scrolling for RRC 3011 is because the scrolling is within the editor area, not the web page.
I don't use SnagIt, but I do use HyperSnap, and it has both an option to Capture page with scrolling and Capture region with scrolling. The latter works for me with RRC artifacts that require scrolling. You might want to see if SnagIt has a similar option. |
I mentioned in my orginal posting that I had also tried capturing a scrolling regiond. What I find is it starts to scroll and then stops with a failure message. Unfortunately that message does not explain why the capture failed and only sends me to the help file for option configuration.
If you are able to get the scrolling region capture to work properly with HyperSnap I may reach out to the Snagit vendor assistance. Both my company and my client have standardized on Snagit. Regards, Sharon |
Sharon, I was able to capture entire rich text artifact and graphical artifact on one image; the condition is artifact should be on edit-mode
- Rich text artifacts I was able to save long entire rich text artifact on one image using Addons on Firefox 3.6. I tried with with Screngrab and Screenshot Pimp - Screengrab, Screen Shots, & Save Selection If rich text artifact is on read-mode and using the function "Save > Complete Page/Frame", capture the entire web page But If rich artifact is on edit-mode and using the function "Save > Complete Page/Frame", capture the entire content of the rich text artifact - Graphical artifacts I was able to save entire graphical artifacts on one image with HyperSnap 6, using the function "Capture > Entire Page with Scrolling" I hope this help you Sharon Regards...
