Snapshots in Agile Planning
For the iteration plan, I have taken a Regular snapshots for comparing the differences. The Snapshots show "scheduled start date" and "scheduled end date". How does RTC pick up "scheduled start date" and "scheduled end date"? I certainly did not specify. I did set "Iteration Start Date" and "Iteration End Date". Would this affect the planning? Is there a way to correct these scheduled dates?
Any help on this? |

Hi, I assume you talk about the formal planning. Please see here https://jazz.net/library/article/663 and https://jazz.net/library/article/658 . There are other articles about planning in the library. Basically the start and end dates are set when creating a snapshot of type planned or proposed.

Thanks Ralph, But then here we are using SCRUM template in the project and how would RTC pick up the scheduled start and end date? |

Hi,
the planned start date is set using the "planned" snapshot. In general the agile scheduler works different than the formal one. I think the idea is to rank things per person and the people pick up and finish work as they go. |
The "Iteration Start Date" and "Iteration End Date" represents the dates set for the iteration.
The "Scheduled Start Date and "Scheduled End Date" represents the start and end date calculated by the scheduler based on the rolled up values of the work items planned for the iteration. These dates cannot be manually edited. I reviewed the work item 151214 as well. My question still is:
How are the "Scheduled Start Date" and "Scheduled End Date" calculated? My current iteration begins on 10/4/2011 and ends on 10/28/2011. Yet, RTC picks up "Scheduled Start Date" as of 7/18/2011. I have no task starting on 7/18. Similarly, RTC picks up "Scheduled End Date" as of 4/10/2012. I have no task ending on 4/10 in 2012. Is this garbage data for Agile method? The users should ignore? or does it have any meaning? The "Iteration Start Date" and "Iteration End Date" represents the dates set for the iteration. Hi,
This sounds like a bug, I have created "181031: Scheduled start date and scheduled end date values in Snapshot compare incorrect for Agile Plans" Thanks, Sharoon - Planning Team I reviewed the work item 151214 as well. Also, could you open the Roadmap view or add the column Accumulated Time or Accumulated Time (Read-only) to a Plan view and remove all the filters and confirm that there is no task which starts or ends before and after the iteration dates.
Thanks, Sharoon - Planning Team Hi, |
My iteration begins on Oct 3 and ends on 28. I created all tasks within RTC, did not import them from MS project or anything. Despite the iteration setup, RTC picked Sep 30 as a start date for one task. And, RTC picked up Aug 30 as the "scheduled start date". There is no task that starts on Aug 30. I am confirming it here.
For End date, I am still working with my team if they set up their user records correctly. I will update you next week. Also, could you open the Roadmap view or add the column Accumulated Time or Accumulated Time (Read-only) to a Plan view and remove all the filters and confirm that there is no task which starts or ends before and after the iteration dates. Hi,
In case of resolved items the tool schedules them backwards. If this goes before the iteration start it would capture that which is likely to be the case here.
