Promoting Process Templates

Hi,

I'm using RTC 3.0.1, and I have some troubles updating processes between servers.

Needs:

I have 2 environments (diferent JTS and RTC servers), and when I modify the process of the one of them i need to do apply the same changes to the second ( promote the changes ), can't consider doing it manually.

Tries:
- Extracting the process template from the first PA, but to apply it on the second server I need to create a new PA, so I lose the data -> Fail

- Link PA's this could work on the same server but can't make it work on differnt servers -> Fail

Any idea on how to do it?

Thanks in advance!

What you can do is copy and paste the process configuration source from one project area to another. That only works if you keep the exact same process on both PAs of course. What you don't transport by that are the additional attachments (i.e. WI type icons) which you would have to add manually.

At least thats the process I frequently use when doing changes on a test PA and want to transfer them to the productive PA later and it worked just fine for me so far.

Thanks Eike, It worked perfectly as you said!

Althought I was expecting a more automated process, it covers what I need!

In order to not lose your project area data when upgrading your process,
you should use the "process sharing" mechanism. In particular, create a
new project area from the new process template, and select the "use the
process from another project area" radio button on your existing project
area Overview page, to select that new project area.

Cheers,
Geoff

Geoff, two questions regarding the process you mentioned:
- What kind of project area data could I save by creating a new PA and use that PAs process? Or do you mean the process itself?
- Do you know what happens if the PA used to provide the process is archived?

This is just for the process itself (not for categories, timelines, etc.)

Archiving the project area that defines the process of another project
area appears to have no effect on the use of that project area by that
other project area (except that the process project area cannot be
modified until it has been restored).

Geoff
