Multiple server configuration question

Jackie Albert (1.6k14947) | asked Feb 16 '11, 9:33 p.m.
Our deployment plan is to use a single data warehouse for our customers, but divide their usage across multiple report servers (Insight 1.0.1). Is it supported for the Insight servers to point to the same content manager database, or is it required that they each have their own?

While you can point 2 content managers to the same database, only 1 of them will be active at a time. The other will be in standby mode. I've included a link below which talk about active/standby mode for content manage. So, for your usage, you will need separate content manager databases.

Thanks Jeff! No wonder I couldn't find it, I was searching through Insight docs and not Cognos docs. We'll switch to using two content manager databases.

As a side note, I had seen it go into standby mode when we were on Insight 1.0.0.1, but not since we switched to 1.0.1. Since then both servers continued to run, just significantly slower. Not sure if this is a problem, or just due to the configuration we have. Either way, we'll switch to separate databases. Thanks again.
