Installation Failed for Insight 1.0.1 RCO

Dennis Bell (111) | asked Nov 29 '10, 9:51 a.m.
Tried installing to a clean Windows Server 2008 machine running SQL Server 2005 R2. Installation Manager runs almost to completion then fails with message "error during "install" phase: An error occurred while installing the Data Warehouse. xxx"
I used the default settings to automatically create the database tables? :(

Hi Dennis,

There are a number of reasons why the data warehouse installation may fail such as inadequate user permissions or insufficient memory. Was there any more to the error message presented by the installer? Can you check for errors in the data warehouse installation logs as described in

There are no logs in the location specified when following the URL above. There are errors within the IM install log which I've copied below:
139 ERROR 18:29.70 An error occurred while installing the Data Warehouse.

143 ERROR 41:48.62 Error during "install" phase:

Imandel, I've found the solution myself. The problem was annoyingly simple, IBM Installation Manager cannot find the install directories if they are on a network drive, at least in VMWare. Solution copy directories to the C: drive and it all works fine.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for posting your solution. I have opened defect 42556 to investigate and track this issue.

Trying to do an reinstall of Insight 1.0.1, consistently returns this message:

SQL0299N Container is already assigned to the table space. SQLSTATE=42731

Steps taken before reinstall:
* uninstalled Insight via IBM IM
* uninstalled DB2 via control panel
* removed ibm/rational insight directory
* removed DB2 directory

System has plenty of space. Windows XP.

David,

When starting a new topic please post a new top level question in order to get attention to your issue.

In this case even though you have uninstalled DB2 and deleted the DB2 directory you may still need to clean up (drop) the databases that are installed as part of Insight. As a rule, the Insight installer does not remove the databases, which may contain your data. The DB2 installer also should not remove any of your existing databases.
