Migrate ClearCase into RTC
anyone have some thoughts on the best way to migrate from CC to RTC? Are there tools? I searched on this website for some time and can't find any documentation.
Of course, they will want to take everything (history, metadata...) with them when they migrate, so we can't just take a single baseline and start from there...
thanks

One answer
The only way to migrate "everything" from one SCM system into another
SCM system would be if that other SCM system supported everything in the
original system. Since no SCM system supports the arbitrary "config
spec" configuration defining mechanism of ClearCase, there is no way
(even theoretically) to effectively bring over "everything" from
ClearCase into any other SCM system (including RTC). You could store a
blob of metadata with each version, but you can't use that metadata to
do what ClearCase could do with it, so there's not much point in
capturing it.
What you can do is decide what "configurations" that you want to bring
over, and then bring those over. That is the functionality provided by
the "import with history" mode of the ClearCase Synchronizer (see the
on-line help for information on the CC Synchronizer).
As general guidance, you can use the ClearCase Synchronizer to bring
over configurations as you need them (you don't need to import them all
up front), but if you want access to all configurations ever captured by
ClearCase, you'll need to keep at least one license of ClearCase around
to do so.

Geoff
p.s. For you ClearCase users and consultants ... you've been spoiled by
the fact that ClearCase's configuration mechanism (config specs) is so
powerful that it can be used to absorb the data from any other SCM
system. So if you want a "universal" SCM system that can absorb all the
metadata from any other SCM system, then you need ClearCase.
