RTC - CCRC Extension - Eclipse 3.5

Summary:

- Installed RTC atop Eclipse 3.5 using p2 Installer
- Copied 'features' and 'plugins' directories from CCRC Extension into Eclipse 3.5's plugins folder to enable CC-RTC Bridge

Will this work? Is there any problem with this approach?

Full Message:

I've just installed RTC v2.0.0.2 atop of an existing Eclipse 3.5 instance. Given the Install Manager does not yet support this scenario, I did so using the p2 install package available in the "All Downloads" tab.

Now, I'm trying to configure the RTC-CC bridge. The problem I've encountered is that the documented way of installing the CCRC Extension (using the Install Manager) will not work because of the fact that I used the p2 install method for Eclipse 3.5 and not the Install Manager. To get past this, I took the 'features' and the 'plugins' directory that can be found within the CCRC Extension folder and I simply put them into Eclipse 3.5's 'dropins' folder. I now see the Eclipse menu options and views for ClearCase but I'm not sure if this will actually work in the long run. Can anyone see why I can't use this approach? Thanks in advance.

It might work, but I can say definitively that this is a path we have not tested. :-)

A better alternative to the IIM install is to install via Software Updates using the CCRC update site on your CM server. The update site will look like, for example:

http://<cmserver>/ccrc/update

Click Help | Software Updates. On the Available Software tab, select Add Siite, then enter the URL. Select Rational ClearCase Remote Client in the tree control and click Install.

Hi Carol,

Great. I'll try this out. Didn't even know that the CM server had an update path in that form. Thanks.

It doesn't appear that my ClearQuest install has this update site. Is there a zip download of the site we can use?

Your CM Server only has the Server for ClearQuest Web installed. It would need to have the Server for ClearCase Remote Clients also installed
