Migration to RTC from ClearCase/ClearQuest etc.

Currently the place that I'm working at has heavy investment in ClearCase (thick end of 100k annually).

I'm looking at solutions that would give better defect/work management than they have at the moment. There is pressure to take on ClearQuest from some quarters in a restricted manner due to its expense.

I note that RTC integrates with ClearCase and may give me the option of steering them to migrate away from ClearCase and avoid ClearQuest altogether.

Does this sound feasible?

Does anyone know if during the intervening time period a ClearCase licence would be required for every user, or could we get by with fewer when connecting through the ClearCase Synchroniser?

Yes, for many customers which don't need all the power of ClearQuest,
RTC work items would provide them the right level of defect/work
management. They can eithher stay with ClearCase, and use the
ClearQuest Bridge to integrate ClearCase with RTC work items, or they
can gradually migrate from ClearCase to RTC, using the ClearCase
Synchronizer.

WRT license usage, you only need one ClearCase license for the ClearCase
Synchronizer ... all the team members who are now using RTC SCM only
need RTC developer licenses ... they no longer would need ClearCase
licenses.
