I found both "list" and "query" could show target objects, what the difference of them?

 As the documentation states, list lists SCM related items usually based on a simple pattern e.g. file name. You usually get only one type of item.


Query allows to query for items that have custom attributes. The items are selected by a query. There can be multiple types of items that can have the same custom attribute.
