Burndown chart for curr iteration blank (prev iteration ok)
The Burndown chart for our current iteration is blank (not rendering). The previous iteration (recently completed) was fine. There are 284 work items assigned to the current iteration and we verified they have estimates specified.
We found the help text shown below and followed the instructions ("Update all snapshot data") but did not help. Can someone please help us? Burndown No work items with estimates specified were found. Why did this happen? This report presents historical data from the data warehouse. This data is collected by an automated snapshot task once a day around midnight. It is possible that this chart is empty because the task has not had a chance to run yet. To run the snapshot task manually, go to the web interface. Ensure your contributor has the "JazzDWAdmins" repository permission, and select the "Administer Data Warehouse" link in the left navigation panel. Select the "Update all snapshot data" button. After the task has completed, try viewing this report again. It is also possible that the selected parameters did not return any results from the data warehouse. Thanks, Tim |

Please make sure the start and end dates of your iteration are correct; i.e., the start date should not start in the future and the end date should not end in the past.

We verified that the start and end dates of current iteration are correct (start=12/1/2009, end=12/22/2009). I just tried running the Burndown report in WEB UI (previous attempts were in the Eclipse client) and I received the error messages shown below which might help to pin-point the issue. From our perspective, this iteration looks the same as the previous iteration (whose burndown chart works file). It has 284 work items (stories and tasks) with estimates.

Assuming your server is 2.0.0.1, can you please: 1) Start the Eclipse Client 2) Expand Reports/Report Templates node under the team artifacts navigator 3) Right click the Burndown report template 4) Choose "Restore Initial Contents..." The above will update the report template with the latest version that shipped with RTC 2.0.0.1. Can you also Right click the Report Templates node and choose "Deploy New Templates..." and deploy the "Burnup report and tell us if it causes the same issues? |

Thank you for your help. I performed the indicated steps to restore initial contents of Burndown report template but this did not help. I then deployed the new 'Burnup' report template and also getting same error message:

Timothy, this looks like a real issue.
Can you please file a bug report against RTC? At the same time, I will work on an instrumented version of the Burndown report and ask you to deploy it. This will help me narrow down the issue. Can you please confirm that your server is running RTC 2.0.0.1? After deploying the updated report do you still get the error with the big stack trace or do you just get the message that says: No work items with estimates specified were found. Can you please try the Open vs Closed Work items report using the same iteration and tell me if that works? What values do you assign for the parameters. Some screen grabs can also help debug the issue. |

Thanks again. I will file a bug report against RTC. Please let me know when you have an instrumented Burndown template ready for me to deploy. We are running 2.0.0.2 RC1 on the Jazz server. After deploying the updated Burndown report template, I continued to get a same error message. It should be noted that I am trying various different methods to see the Burndown chart each having slightly different results (but all fail):
1. Eclipse client - Open the current iteration 'Plan' and go to 'Charts' tab No work items found 2. Eclipse client - Run 'Burndown' or 'Burnup' reports found under 'Reports / Report Templates' No work items with estimates specified were found. . . . The following items have errors: TextData (id = 316): + _in predicate value array is empty TextData (id = 408): + _in predicate value array is empty <more> <stack> 3. Web client - Reports -> Shared Reports -> Burndown <same> I also get 'No work items were found' when I run the 'Open vs Closed Work Items' and 'Open Work Items by Type' so it seems to be a broader issue. The Burndown (and other) report parameters look good (same as the previous iteration which was A-OKAY). For example, here are the parameters for Burndown: Team Area - "My Team Area" box is checked Iteration - "Current Iteration" box is checked Details - "High (All)" is selected |

I think I may know what is going on (keeping my fingers crossed).
2.0.0.2 RC1 had a bug which was fixed in 2.0.0.2 GA. The bug prevented the Work Item data collection tasks from collecting data if one of the new tables introduced in 2.0.0.2 was missing. To fix this try the following: 1) run repotools -addTables to add the missing table. or 2) Deploy 2.0.0.2 GA to the server 2.0.0.2 GA is more tolerant of missing tables. But in any case you need to run "repotools -addTables" to keep the server happy and not have errors in your server log. After doing the above, you will need to wait until the next day for the data collection tasks to collect the missing data. So try the reports the next day. |

I would like to try running the suggested "repotools -addTables" command first, before we decide if an upgrade to 2.0.0.2 GA is necessary at this time. The RTC Jazz Server involved is Windows-based and the resource who normally performs our RTC Jazz server installations is out of the office today & tomorrow and we need this fix asap. I have the same administrative access to the Windows box involved. I tried running the provided command but it was not found. I searched for "repotools.exe" but cannnot find. Can you please provide brief bullet-pointed instructions for running the "repotools -addTables" command on a Windows-based RTC Jazz Server installation? By the way ... once I am able to run the command successfully ... can't I simply click on the "Update All Snapshot Data" button that is available in the WEB UI under Reports / Administer Data Warehouse options? Yes. if you click the Update All Snapshot Data button, then you won't have to wait for the next day.
As for the location of the repotools command, I am currently downloading and installing the RTC server using the installion manager. I will get back to you once that finishes. Have you tried doing a windows file search? |

The repotools are located in JazzInstallDir/server. You need to look for it in the server install directory.
