Download Websphere Application Server Repository
The process for installing Websphere Application Server is documented here
It seems that you have to install Installation Manager and then point it at an online repository
Is it possible to download the WAS repository? (similar to how the Jazz repositories can be downloaded)
So that it can be installed multiple times without having to install from online repository each time?

Sean, you can not download WAS from Jazz.net. You need to use the IBM software download site for customers. Please note from my memories, you do not want to download a WebSphere trial. You want to download the full version you are entitled to get with the Jazz licenses. Back in the day there was no way to change a trial into a final version, so don't. You should be able to download an installation image that can be reused.
Last but not least, the suggested application server is WAS Liberty Profile (WLP). Newer technology, better scaling with fewer configuration necessary. Plus, it is shipped with the ELM downloads on Jazz.net. WLP is part of the installation manager repository shipped for ELM. You should be able to get the official version from Jazz.net as well as from your customer download page for the IBM products.

Thanks for the tip Ralph
So you can install websphere for free via the web repository (have to be online) but you can only download the repository for offline installation if you are a registered licensed customer?
From Passport Advantage?
Or is there a public download link available for being able to install websphere while offline?

Hi Sean,
this is a Jazz Forum, not a WebSphere forum.
You can download the full version you are entitled from Passport Advantage.
Given my past experience I would not download and use a trial version of WAS If I do not want to completely reinstall WAS later and redeploy the Jazz Applications because the evaluation license expires and there is no way to replace it with a productive one.
The preferred Application server for Jazz products is WebSphere Liberty Profile (WLP).
In the context of Jazz you can download the optional product installation here: https://jazz.net/downloads/elm/releases/7.0.2?p=optionalPrograms For all I can see, WAS is not listed there any more, since WLP is now the recommended and bundled App Server.
If you want to learn about other ways to download and install WAS, please consider asking on a WebSphere forum. I am pretty sure that you can download IBM Installation Manager repositories for WAS. PS: The page you mention seems to provide a link to download the WAS IBM Installation Manager repository. |
