Can you restrict some users to only be able to view defects
Is there a way to restrict some users, say as part of a project role to be only able to see Defect Workitems and not any of the other items.

Most current permissions are action based instead of access based. You could modify permissions so that a user could only view things and not create or save but you can't currently configure what you'd like a user to be able to view.
