Overall Performance using RTC 6.04

Gerald Stephens (1125) | asked Feb 06 '18, 11:09 a.m.

We are using RTC 6.04 with iFix006.

Installation uses an Oracle 11g database (AIX LPAR) and Windows 2008R2 VM for the RTC installation.
Oracle server is an AIX LPAR, with 1 CPU and 16 GB Ram
RTC server is a Windows 2008R2 VM, with 8 vCPU and 12 GB Ram

It is a small installation, DB is ~ 10GB in size, less than 10 concurrent users.  The servers are in a data center, and end users are another building, linked by a 250 Mb/sec line.

Queries in DoorsNG take an excessive amount of time, over a minute to return a list of 150 artifacts.
Most users are using Firefox ESR(latest), some are on Firefox Quantum - does not make a difference.

Observing the server performance while users are querying the system does not show any signs of a resource issue on the tools or DB server, and no load issue on the end user workstation.  Test of the link between the buildings return good performance, large file transfer indicate close to 250 Mb/sec of bandwidth. Other application hosted in the same data center have good response and performance.  Running a browser/RTC on the RTC server does not show any better performance.

I am stumped where to investigate next to improve the performance.  Given the number of users and the size of the database, I can not justify moving to a distributed enterprise installation, especially since no load is shown on the existing VMs.

Suggestions where to look next?

Here are a lot of information around sizing and deployment planning: https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Deployment/DeploymentPlanningAndDesign

Here the monitoring aspect: https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Deployment/DeploymentMonitoring

RTC 6.0.4 comes with a lot of new monitoring.

You talk about the RTC server, but not the DNG server. Look at the standard topology information mentioned in the links above.
Be aware that the characteristics of how RTC works and how DNG and the link indexing works with respect to RAM are not working well together if installed on one system.
