RTC/Jazz web application out of the box attributes leads into performance issue

Natarajan Thirumeni (298731) | asked Jun 16 '16, 4:36 a.m.
You're running into issues with Jazz/RTC behind firewall (Web Application Firewall from F5). On the server behind the firewall, Jazz runs on WAS (WebSphere Application Server), HTTPS port 9443. In the config files, WAS as well as Jazz is configured to use port 9443.

You are able to access the server from your local network using port 9443. When attempting to access the sever outside of the server machine results into number of unexpected behavior.

1. Using https://SERVER:9443/ccm/ - able to load the application

2. Using https://SERVER:9443/ccm/web/projects/ - able to view the WI1452 but when trying to pull any of drop values, results into "retrieving message" but it never load. Although these values in the process template but it never loads.

3. Opening any of the quality management project areas takes longer and it never loads.

3. No useful error messages in the client side or in the server side logs.

4. Performance is pretty slow to load RTC workitem items  / query / test case and pretty almost every action results into delay.

This is  not specific any version. We've seen this issue in RTC5.x version.

You cannot figure out where and why? What would be an solution to these issues?

Its is not an Jazz/RTC or Application server issue as you're able load things on "local" system.

The moment, you access the web application outside the "local" system, the traffic is routed through your F5 or other Firewall servers.

This is probably caused by Firewall server. In this case, F5 was blocking our traffic and result into a delay and unexpected issue to our end users. You need to check with Firewall team to see if they are seeing a Java scripts or Jazz/RTC related URLs are blocked. If yes, ask them to allow Jazz/RTC traffic.

We are able to fix this issue after allowing Jazz/RTC traffic in our F5.
