Cannot update RTC VS Client from 4.0.3 to 5.0.2; getting a CRIMC1031E error

We've upgraded the server to 5.0.2.  When one of our .Net developers tries to update the RTC Visual Studio Client using IM 1.8, the following error occurs:

Feature com.ibm.team.concert.dotnet.VS2008 is not found in package com.ibm.com.ibm.team.concert.dotnet 5.0.2.20141022_0815.
Message ID: CRIMC1031E
Explanation: A feature that existed in a  previous version of the package is not available in the specified version of the package.
User Action: Check the features available in a package by using the -features option with the listAvailablePackages command.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one?  How can we correct this or work around this to get the client updated?  Or, do we need to uninstall the current version of the client and then install the 5.0.2 client?  If we go this latter route, will anything be lost?

Visual Studio 2008 is not under the supported runtime environment for verson 5.0.x
See more information below:

Do you see the issue with 2010, 2012 and 2013 environment?

We were able to update the RTC VS Studio client to v5.0.2 by doing the following:

  1. Use the Modify option in the IBM IM to remove the VS 2008 component from the v4.0.3 RTC VS Studio client.
  2. Use the Update option in the IBM IM to update the RTC VS Studio client from v4.0.3 to v5.0.2.
  3. Then we uninstalled VS 2008.  It was important to not do this step first, because it confused the IBM IM when we attempted the Modify step above.
