timeline hierarchy

Daniel martin (10122926) | asked Jul 06 '09, 11:02 a.m.
I have a project that is a collection of multiple teams that operate independently, but they would like the team timelines to roll up to the overall project timeline. Is there a way in RTC 2.0 to create a hierachy of timelines? It would be nice to see the overall schedule of a group of teams so that if one team is over loaded resources could be moved around.

Hi, Daniel.

I'm not sure I understand the use-case, but I can tell you that timelines
do not have a hierarchical relationship. Timelines are parallel in
nature. For hierarchical scheduling, we use iterations within a timeline.

Say we have a project that does timlines every quarter, and each team within the project will create iteration plan(s) for their group within that quarter. The iteration plans will show the amount of work for each group, but is there a way to collect the individual teams work, and show the over all work scheduled for the quarter from within the project area.

I see on the dashboard all the iteration plans for a sprint are reported in a single view. This should provide me with the information I require.
