Hello,
Is it possible for a specific work item type, say Defect, to limit the possible link types shown to the users? 

Most users are accessing RTC via the web.

Angela,

as far as I am aware this is not possible today. What you could try is to create an advisor that prevents saving the work item if a link type should not be allowed.

 Hi Angela,

I think this is what you need.

For each different workitem type, you then need separate link section.
