Is there a way to copy a work item with the original parent link?

It looks like the "Create Work Item Copy" function does not include the parent link. Is there a way to configure the copy function to do that or to copy a work item in some other way that would also copy the parent link?

Scenario: Split a Story
Create a copy of a Story with the same fields filled out and with the same Epic for the parent (which would also create a child link to the new Story from the Epic).
Adjust the story points of both Stories.
Move open Tasks to the new Story (keeping completed Tasks under the original Story).
Move the new Story to the next Sprint.
Close the original story with "incomplete" status (part of our Story workflow).

I realize the Story parent can be set manually, but not doing so as part of the copy is leaving orphans since folks forget to do it or in some cases associate it with the wrong Epic.

The only thing that I believe comes close is by going to the parent Epic and creating your new child Story by using the Extract Work Item capability. After that Story gets created, you'd have to set the parent of the unfinished Tasks to the Story.
