Questions regarding the integration of Design Management and DOORS Next Gen

We are using CLM version 4.0.2.  I have two questions related to the integration of DOORS Next Gen (RM) and Design Management (DM).  Note that I am an experienced RM user, but am new to DM.

1) I'm starting with our DM project associated to the Documentation System Domain, and I've created a simple sketch in the DM project.  I would like that simple sketch to appear as an image in an RM rich text artifact.  In the RM rich text artifact, I can insert an image or artifact that's contained somewhere else in RM.  But its not obvious to me how I can select the sketch from DM to appear as an inserted image or artifact in the RM rich text artifact.  Is that possible?  If so, how is it done?

2) I've created several stick figures, ovals, and lines in my DM simple sketch.  I was hoping to be able to associate those entities with RM artifacts.  Is that possible with elements of a DM simple sketch?  If so, how?  If not, would it be possible if I imported a Rhapsody model into my DM project?  For example, if I had a Rhapsody model with a use case diagram, could I associate the use cases that appear in the diagram with requirements in RM?

Thanks,
Joe Gariano

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately, you cannot :
1. insert a sketch as an image in the RM Rich text. You can only associate the RM artifact to the sketch via a link.
Once the link is added to the rich text editor, you can hover on it and you will be able view your sketch or part of it (with the "Show more" option).
Here is an example.

2. you cannot associate stick figures, ovals, and lines in your DM simple sketch with RM artifacts. This is because they are not per se standalone resources
that you can browse to.

Otherwise, yes it is possible to import your Rhapsody model into your DM project.
This would indeed allow you to associate your model UseCases to RM artifacts.
Here is a link in the infocenter of DM on the topic of importing of Rational Rhapsody models to the Design Management Server

I hope this will help you,
Regards,
François

Thank you, Francois.  That answers my questions.

Francois,

Follow-up question...  I tried adding a link to a DM sketch in my RM rich text document, but I couldn't get the mouse over image feature to appear.  When I mouse over it, the pop up says "More information is not available".  If I click on the link, it takes me to the sketch in DM just fine.

I've fried it with two different URLs:
- https://gddm01.gddsi.com:9443/dm/web/projects/DM_Sandbox?rmps.context=https%3A%2F%2Fgddm01.gddsi.com%3A9443%2Fdm%2Fstreams%2F9#action=rmps.app.design.edit&resource=https%3A%2F%2Fgddm01.gddsi.com%3A9443%2Fdm%2Fmodels%2F38
- https://gddm01.gddsi.com:9443/dm/web/projects/DM_Sandbox?rmps.context=https%3A%2F%2Fgddm01.gddsi.com%3A9443%2Fdm%2Fstreams%2F9#action=rmps.app.design.edit&resource=https%3A%2F%2Fgddm01.gddsi.com%3A9443%2Fdm%2Fmodels%2F38&tab=SketcherDiagram

Am I doing something wrong when setting up the link?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Which type of link did you use?
How did you configure the association between the DOORS Next Gen (RM) and Design Management (DM) project areas?
You need to make sure that the association has been set up correctly and that you create a link of type "Derives".
See the infocenter page:
Establishing cross-server communication by creating friend links
and
Integrating the CLM applications and Design Management

Additionally, have a look at the forum thread: DM and RM bi-directional links

I hope this will help you.

François

Thanks Francois.  Turns out the following link does work (i.e. gives me the ability to see the diagram image when I mouse over it):
https://gddm01.gddsi.com:9443/dm/models/38

I figured this out by examining the links the were created automatically when I established a "derives/derived by" link between an RM and DM artifact.

Thanks,
Joe
