deleting work tasks

Apparently there is no way to delete a work task (story, enhacement, task, etc) once it is saved. Is there a way to do this ?

If not, I do not understand the rationale behind this. The inability for some role in the tool to delete unwanted tasks leads to awkward behaviors like dumping unwanted tasks into old iterations or creating "unwanted buckets" in the current plan.

Our current suggestion is to resolve the work item as 'Invalid',
assuming that the workflow you are using has this resolution.

In general, work items should have an 'archive' rather than 'delete'
functionality. Even though you want the work item out of your way, the
audit trail must still be preserved.
