How do I set default email notification for workitem category

I have created categories in a project area. I want to be able to get notification when a workitem is opened against a particular category that I am a lead for - I have not found a way to configure this ?

I don't think either answer is what I am looking for. If a user opens an enhancement or work item and it is not assigned to anyone - I need to be notified that it has been created so I can take action to assing it may be a better way to state what I am trying to do.

As a regular user it would be better to add a widget advising you of new unassigned workitems. This would provide a list that you could review and act on as required. If you add this on your personal dashboard you could add a separate list for each project you are involved with.
