Requesting permission to an asset
I understand that RAM can be configured to restrict access to an asset based on a users role and the assets category and type. Trying to download a restricted asset results in a message 'You are not authorized to download artifact "x" from asset "y" in state x.' and an action link 'Request permission to asset "x". It appears that permission requests are sent to the community administrator(s) for action.
Is it possible to change or extend this default behaviour? In RAM terms, we have a large number of restricted assets that are managed by community administrators. Access to those assets are controlled by a set of people with approval roles who are not community administrators. In some circumstances more that one approver is required to permit access to an asset. |
Accepted answer
See Granting requested permissions for assets and delegating permission requests. This feature was introduced in RAM 7.5.1.

Thanks Sheehan, I hadn't seen that new feature. Is there a way to audit permission requests? Once the permission has been granted and the task closed the request vanishes. We have a need to cbn who has access to what. Our actual requirement is to have workflow associated with granting permissions. It would be ideal if these 'tasks' were raised in RTC then we could tailor the workflow of how permission is granted. We have thousands of requests for access to restricted material.

I noticed that the Administration 'Repository Statistics - Activity Audit' report shows tasks submitted and completed, although I haven't figured out how a user knows what they have permission to access. Is that visible? I don't think I was clear on my original question. We have assets which require the approval of a set of people with differing roles e.g management, legal and content managers. They all need to approve a request for access before being permitted to download asset content. It would be great if RAM could handle this kind of scenario. |
