Predefine Approval

Hi,

Can I define default value for Approval, so every WI will automaticly have the approval waiting for just approved or rejected?
I have only one approver and don't want him to prepare the approval field for every WI.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can create a work item, populate the approval section and make a template out of that work item.
You will have to create work items based on that template:
'Work Items' -> 'Create from template' in the WebUI
'Work Items' -> 'New' -> 'Work Items from template' in the Eclipse client.

In that case I could also suggest introducing a state "waiting for approval" which has actions approve and reject it depends on what you need.

So why the process template do not have this state?
I remember the process template has pre-condition to get approval before complete.

Yes, you can just make the process require an approval (no need to add a
new state). But the state-based approach (with our without a new state)
will not specify who should do the approving (which I believe is
something the original post wanted). For that, the work-item template
approach suggested by David is probably closer to what the original post
was looking for.

Cheers,
Geoff

I like this approach as well, except that you only get it for people who REMEMBER to create the work item from the template. If they just create work item, then you don't get this automatically.

We need a way to say that every Defect work item, has an approval record owned by the originator. To be able to close the work item, the approval record must be marked (accepted) by the originator. Cancel actions should not matter.

Will this also work with custom work item types?
I have a work item with set approvals and after creating a work item template I am unable to create a work item using the Work Item Template feature.

I receive the following error:
The work items were not created. Details: Illegal work item specification! Attribute "approvals" cannot be parsed properly.

Hi,

You can create a work item, populate the approval section and make a template out of that work item.
You will have to create work items based on that template:
'Work Items' -> 'Create from template' in the WebUI
'Work Items' -> 'New' -> 'Work Items from template' in the Eclipse client.

Please contact Rational Support and/or file a work item on jazz.net. This functionally works properly in the latest 4.0 milestone, so this very likely is a problem with something in your custom work item type.

Geoff
