RTC Client 3.0.1.1 (64bit) + Eclipse 3.6

Hi.

I have dowloaded the updated 3.0.1.1 RTC Client (Client for Eclipse IDE) and i tried intalling it as a 64-bit installation. However i get the following error on the IBM Installation Manager Install Packages window:

"The 32-bit Rational Team Concert - Client for Eclipse IDE packages cannot be installed in a 64-bit package group"

This is the only article I found:
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21502535

But it does not lead to a solution, as I am using the latest repository source (3.0.1.1)

In addition I understand that RTC can now support Eclipse 3.6. On the release note it is slightly confusing on how you would go about installing this. It appears that you need to also install the client extensions along with the rtc client. I did this as part of a 32bit install but the end client is still using eclipse 3.5? What am I doing wrong?

Ciao Raimondo:
Well, the page http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27019498#RTC is correct. The usual "RTC Eclipse client 3.0.x" does not support to integrate with RAD 8.0.x because of the different Eclipse levels required/included by these offerings.

But take a closer look at my response to Boris please.
In few words: The "RTC Eclipse Client 3.0.1.1" is a stand-alone package  while the "RTC Extension Client 3.0.1.1" is a different offering that requires to be installed in the same package group with another Rational product.
The second one does support to be installed into RAD 8.0.x. This was the solution that we provided in 3.0.x for scenarios like yours.

Is this a different path? Yes, you need to follow the instructions in answer 1:
https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/releases/3.0.1.1?p=releaseNotes, search for the "Client for Eclipse 3.6 based Rational Software Development Products" section.

Let me know if you have doubts.

Sergio,
your suggestion worked! Now our Jazz server has been migrated to 4.0.1 and I would like to upgrade my RTC Extension client 3.0.1 (RAD 8, 64-bit) to new RTC client 4. In this case what offering I have to use to upgrade my local environment?

What client (https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/releases/4.0.1?p=allDownloads)?

Thanks!
Rai

Hello Rai:
Well, with Installation Manager should be very easy (I recommend to close your Rational products):
1. Open IM.
2. Go to File-Preferences.
3. Search for "Repositories" in the left menu.
4. Make sure that the checkbox to search for service repositories is checked
5. Press OK and go back to the main menu.
6. Press on "Updates".
7. Select the package that has your RTC 3.0.1.1 installation, and proceed with the flow.
You should see the latest version available.

Hope it helps.

Hello Boris Kivshar:

I think you are using the wrong offering, sorry for the confusion, a quick explanation:

-The RTC Eclipse Client 3.0.1.1 is a stand-alone package that can be installed in 32 bits mode only.
-The RTC Extension Client 3.0.1.1 is an offering that needs to be installed in the same package group with another Rational product. This one does support 32 and 64 bits modes.

I will try to give an answer to your scenarios:

1) It looks like you are trying to install over RAD in 64 bits mode. Please follow the instructions here https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/releases/3.0.1.1?p=releaseNotes in the "Client for Eclipse 3.6 based Rational Software Development Products" section.

2) The RTC Eclipse Client 3.0.x does support to install over a plain Existing Eclipse 3.6. You may want to follow this guide https://jazz.net/library/article/708 in order to complete the install.

Keep in mind that install into RAD in a 64 bits mode (1) and install into an Existing Eclipse 3.6 (2) are different scenarios and you will not be able to install RTC into RAD using the method to install into a clean Eclipse environment.

Hope this information helps, reply my post if they did not help.

Regards.

Why in the following site:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27019498#RTC

it is said: "Rational Team Concert integration not supported with Rational Software Architect v8.0.3 64-bit" ? It seems in contrast with your answer (scenario 1).

Can you confirm that it is possible to install RTC client on the top of a 64-bit mode RAD v8.0.3 (or 8.0.4)?

Thanks!
