How are licenses consumed
We are on RAM v7.5 and we have both AU publisher licenses and floating collaborator licenses.
Our understanding is that RAM will assign license ondemand, this means a user will be given collaborator license if he searches for an asset and download the asset. When he uploads or updates the asset, then the collaborator license is surrendered and publisher license is assigned instead. What we want to understand is that, users with AU publisher licenses, will they automatically get the AU publisher license or does RAM give them floating collaborator license first and only swap over with publisher license later when it is required? HI,
There is a difference between floating and authorized user licenses. AU licenses are assigned to users. When the user logs in they are assigned that license. For example if there are 50 AU licenses then only 50 users can be assigned licenses. It doesn't matter whether the user is logged in or not, that license is assigned is not available to anyone else. Floating are taken out as needed and are returned if a user requires a higher level license or when all of the user's sessions have been logged off or timed out. So in your case the user who is assigned to an AU publisher will have the publisher right from the start of login so a collaborator license will never be taken out for that user. There are AU Consumer licenses also. Those users have consumer from the beginning but if a publisher is needed a floating publisher will be consumed. The original AU consumer is not released in this case since it is assigned to this specific user. -- Rich Kulp Rational Asset Manager developer |
