Timestamp Attributes - Default Values

It appears that RTC 3.0.1 does not allow Custom Attributes of Kind timestamp to have a default value; while the OOB Creation Date does support default values.

I need to have the current date defaulted into a new WI when the editor is presented. How can this be accomplished?
