Notifications on new work items -- reality or in the works ?

Hi,

Running lots of RTCv2 ifix 4 enterprise repositories. I am also involved in a project that bridges requests into RTC and some users would like to receive e-mail when a new work item lands in their category. The RTC v2 doc says this about Filed Against:

Work item categories group work items by the various components or functional areas of your project. Each category is associated with a team area whose members are responsible for developing that component.

When you create a work item, you set its Filed Against (category) attribute. Members of the team area associated with that category receive notifications when the work item is created or modified. For each timeline, you can specify a different association. The process defined for the associated team area is the process that users follow for managing and resolving the work item.
-- my emphasis

However, in testing on both RTC v2 and RTC v3 I do not receive any email regarding new work items where I expect I ought .

I have seen a few posts mentioning various issues with EMail configuration in the RTC server setup and I've tried rectify our configuration with suggested changes to no avail. I have also found work items in the RTC project that have what looks to be the desire to have e-mail notices sent on the condition of new work items.

I'm watching the log of our SMTP gateway and nothing appears to be getting bounced. I did see some errors in the RTC log overnight regarding refused connection to the smtp server, but I've never received notification of new work items from our group's development RTC server (I'm a member of all teams so the condition above ought to result in something over the 2+years we've been using RTC)

Am I chasing something that's not there or do I need to explore further ?

Kevin

There are two kinds of notifications in RTC: email and events.
You receive email in your email reader ... you receive events through
RSS feeds. In Eclipse, you can view feeds through the Team Dashboard
(aka Team Central) view, or via configurable fly-outs. In the Web
Browser, you can view events in one of the Feed dashboard viewlets.

This particular reference to "receive notifications" refers only to
events. To receive email, you must be added as a "subscriber" to that
work item. There are a variety of enhancement requests asking for
additional ways to configure email notifications beyond the current
subscriber mechanism (such as 98605). You can search the RTC work item
repository for unresolved work items that refer to "email notification"
to see the kinds of requests that currently exist (and feel free to add
a comment to indicate your support for ones that interest you).

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi, Is there a way to disable the Eclipse fly-outs notifications (right corner banner)?
