Project Snapshot in RRC

Hi,

I have read the Project Snapshot definition given infocenter which captures the state of a project in time.

In simple terms can anyone explain to me

when a Project Snapshot is created and why ?

What for we create a Project Snapshot ?

Is the purpose is something as a backup or reusability ?

RRC maintains all versions of each artifact. Snapshots are a way of identifying (at any time in the future) the set of artifacts current at a particular point of time.

When you create a collection, you can associate it with a collection and compare the artifacts in the collection at two snapshots (or one snapshot and the current "live" versions").

This gives you the ability to see what has changed in a set of interesting artifacts (added, removed, changed) -- for example in a collection of requirements scoped to a particular iteration or release.

One thing to be aware of when using snapshots and collections. The collection needs to be created before the snapshot is taken to be able to view that snapshot in the collection. This can be tricky if you are using the Create Collection Wizard and if you create a new snapshot, during the collection creation, the snapshot will not appear in the list of snapshots associated to the collection. We hope to improve this in the future.
