Are there any plans to add viewlets for actions
For example, while viewing the dashboard, it would be really nice to click on a button/viewlet and create a new work item.

It is an interesting idea. We don't have any plans to add this kind of functionality in the near future. Note that you can click on the title of work items viewlet to go to the 'Work Items' page where you can create the new work items.
