M5 plans broken ? [very frustrating]

Mateusz Berezecki (1622) | asked Feb 29 '08, 5:25 p.m.
Hello,

I've just set up RTC 1.0M5 server on Linux.

I later installed RTC 1.0M5 client on both MacOSX and Windows XP.
I created a simple project with predefined template for EclipseWay project.

Later on I decided to add an iteration plan. I've added a new plan and
called it 'Foundations'. After a bit of typing I saved the plan and it is not
visible anywhere in the project tree hierarchy. It is only accessible via Webpage.

what is wrong? This is very frustrating as there seems to be no way to access
that plan again from RTC on MacOSX and Windows XP.

Are these M5 clients broken or is it myself doing something wrong?

Iteration plans are accessible in the Team Artifacts view. Expand the
project area node, then the plan node, and then the node for the
iteration for which you created the plan. If your plan is not there, one
of the following steps hopefully helps:

- For the Team Artifacts view you can say in which team areas you are
interested. For those in which you have no interest, all artifacts are
filtered out. Check the 'All Team Areas' filter to ensure everything is
visible.

- Check whether the plan has unintentionally been created for a
different iteration.

If still no success please don't be too frustrated to file a work item
against 'Agile Planning'.

I was looking for these plans in the team artifacts view and here's what I got

Let me explain the situation here. This is the view I get directly
after deploying the EclipseWay process template. Even though there
is one iteration defined in the template it does not show up as
an additional directory in project tree under Plans directory
(i.e. Project -> Plans -> M1 ). So that's the first thing.

The second thing is:

Iterations are:

The list of iteration plans via web is:

And for example TEST iteration which I created after reading the reply
to my first post here is assigned to M1 (current) iteration which does not
even show up anywhere in the project tree in Team Artifacts view.

P.S.

I have checked that 'All Team Areas' is checked in the filter.
The plans still simply don't show up on both, windows and linux RTC M5 clients....

Hi,

the plan node in the team artifacts navigator lists only those
iterations which are marked to produce a deliverable. Can you please
check the following:

- open the project area editor
- select the 1.0 iteration and press the "Edit Properties" button
Ensure that the "This iteration produces deliverables..." is checked
- ensure the same for M1

If you still don't see the plans, is it possible to get the DB you are
using or can you provide steps to reproduce ?

Thanks Dirk

I've managed to narrow it down to the permissions and process configuration.
I've completely removed the server and the clients and started
clean install.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Deploy process templates
2. Create new project with e.g. eclipseway process template
3. enable process configuration check-box in the 'team process' settings
4. Add additional role to the process, e.g. 'parttime'
5. Add some team members to the team area
6. Clear permissions for 'default' role
7. Add appropriate permissions for 'parttime' , 'teamlead', 'contributor' roles
- parttime has least rights
- contributor has a bit more freedom
- teamlead has all the rights granted
8. Save changes
9. Restart team client

then the plans disappear. I haven't noticed that I had permissions changed
until I reinstalled the server. With all settings at their default values
everything works perfect but I have to change and reassign permissions
and access rights. Doing this results in plans disappearing. I am puzzled
because AFAIK there is no access right to "display iteration plans".

Any ideas?

APT doen't have any read permissions. So plans aren't filtered depending
on the logged in user's role or permission. The only filtering that
takes place is for the team area the logged in user belongs to. I tried
your steps and wasn't able to reproduce. See attached screen shot. I had
to guess some things, for example which permissions the role have. So I
left them all without any permissions. Do you run Derby as a DB. If so
can you provide the DB ?

This is an experimental feature.
To turn it on go to:
Window>Preferences>Team Process>Show Process Configuration page(s)

I just want to say, I have the same problem and it is equally frustrating.

Frank,

can you provide steps to reproduce this. And would it be possible to get
your process.xml file. As said we tried to reproduce the problem but
weren't able to do so.

Best would be to open a work item with steps and the process.xml attached.
