Error Installing Rational Insight

Ahmad Timsal (361) | asked Apr 12 '10, 2:09 a.m.
Hi,

I have tried to install Rational Insight 1.0. I have a DB2 up and running. The insight installer carried out all the installation tasks successfully. But when i try to access the insight servlet using the URL http://localhost:port/insight/servlet, it gives page not found error, I have tried almost all URL's but it gives the same error.... I have checked the WAS Admin Console for any manual settings, but every thing mentioned in the documentation seems set, and the Cognos 8 Application is also running.

The WebSphere Logs shows the following:

    Hi Tim,

Unfortunately it looks like you may have hit a case where the Cognos 8 application EAR did not build or deploy properly. My suggestion is to remove the application from WebSphere, rebuild it, and redeploy it.

The instructions on building and deploying the application can be found in steps 7 and 8 at
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/rentrpt/v1r0m0/topic/com.ibm.rational.raer.install.doc/topics/t_postreq_reportalserver_db2isdw_repservISwas.html

Start WAS Admin Console and check the following environment variable setting for your server instance.

    COGNOS_INSIGHT=
    PATH=

    For example,

    COGNOS_INSIGHT=/apps/IBM/RationalInsight/cognos
    PATH=/apps/IBM/RationalInsight/cognos/bin

If they are missing, add them and reboot your Insight report server.

The environment variable setting for your server instance can be found in Application servers > RationalInsightServer > Process Definition > Java Virtual Machine > Environment Entries.

I have found a couple of things that need to be done in the Cognos configuration utility.

First, the environment area, make sure the ports listed are correct and that the URIs point to something like: http://server:port/insight/

Then, when building the ear file, select all the check boxes under IBM Cognos 8 in the application window. Next, make sure that the context root is "insight" (without the quotes). Build the ear then in the Integrated Solutions console, un-install IBM Cognos 8 and re-install from the new p2pd.ear file. The start IBM Cognos 8. Exit the browser and restart the WAS service. This worked for me.

    Hi,

I have finally managed to install Insight 1.0.02. The installer returned a success message.

I manually checked all the 'environment entries' in the WAS. But sadly, when I run the insight servlet using the address:

    http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet

    I get the error:

    Error 404: SRVE0200E: Servlet : Could not find required class - com.cognos.pogo.isolation.ServletWrapper

I have checked port 9080 (its not assigned to anything else). Please help me in this regard. What to do ? What to check ?

    Hi Tim,

This looks like you're back in the position I responded about earlier in the thread. You can check for the list of jars in the deployed Web app location, in
    INSIGHT_INSTALL_DIR/AppServer/profiles/RationalInsight/installedApps/**NODE**/IBM Cognos8.ear/p2pd.war/WEB-INF/lib

Typically in this scenario there are no jars are very few in this directory. There should be over 100 jars in this directory. If you are missing jars the best option is to uninstall and reinstall the Cognos Web application. The instructions on building and deploying the application can be found in steps 7 and 8 at
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/rentrpt/v1r0m0/topic/com.ibm.rational.raer.install.doc/topics/t_postreq_reportalserver_db2isdw_repservISwas.html

    Hi Lawrence,

Thanks alot for the reply. (Earlier as well !). I have checked the required location but there isnt any "lib" folder inside the WEB-INF folder. So, this means there are NO jar files for the application ??????

    Hi,

I have deployed the Insight Application (Manually) on WAS, using the steps mentioned in the guide. I have checked the WEB-INF folder, Now it contains the lib folder and jar files....

    BUT :(

When I run http://localhost:9080/insight , I get an error : File Not Found

But When I run http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet, I get the screen:

    IBM Cognos 8

    Content Manager

    Build: 8.4.2519.0
Start time: Tuesday, May 11, 2010 10:05:20 AM PKT
Current time: Tuesday, May 11, 2010 10:07:36 AM PKT
    State: Not running. See logs.

Why is application not running ? Any help in this regard would be appreciated...

    Hi Tim,

I just reviewed the docs and they are missing a step. The Insight installer creates a redirect so that /insight will redirect to /insight/servlet/dispatch. You should be able to access the Insight application at

    http://localhost:9080/insight/servlet/dispatch
